Adolescent and Child Counselling

Psychological Therapy for Children

Children have complex thoughts and feelings but don’t always know how to express them or react to situations. This can cause confusion that leads to anxiety, depression, and poor coping mechanisms. Therapy is a caring, confidential, and safe space for a child with issues at home or school to cope with the difficulties they are facing. Help is around the corner with adolescent and child counselling services at LifeCare Centres.

We offer child counselling wherein a trained and professional therapist will help your child work through various challenges, including (but not limited to):

  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Sleep issues
  • Emotional regulation
  • Social skills
  • Coping and problem solving
  • Self Esteem
  • Grief
  • Divorce/seperation
  • Body issues
  • Bullying
  • Physical and sexual abuse
  • Domestic violence
  • Trauma

Your child’s therapist will regularly communicate with you to work through a treatment plan. Families are important in a child’s growth and development, and therefore may be included in therapy with the child’s permission. Healing can occur faster when children have support at home and families work together.

What Can I Expect from LCC Child Counselling and Therapy

– We will develop a trusted relationship with the child so they are able to fully express and explore their feelings, thoughts, experiences, and behaviours.
– We create therapeutic safety for the child or teen, then expand to include the parents with the child’s permission. The child knows which issues will be addressed.
– Play therapy may be used, allowing the child to work out their issues through play. Toys and play become the child’s language and symbolize what they cannot express, helping the therapist to provide appropriate guidance.
– Sand tray therapy may be used, an expressive therapy tool where the child constructs a miniature scene using sand, water, images, and figures. Sand tray therapy promotes self-expression and is effective for processing trauma.

It can be difficult for children to communicate their emotions and experiences effectively. An experienced therapist will use techniques that will aid in understanding what the child is feeling or struggling with, and then provide them with the help and guidance they need to overcome obstacles and end patterns of negative thoughts or behaviours.
