Boris Kris – New

Clinical Leader of Psychotherapy Services , Registered Psychotherapist

About Me
My desire to provide psychotherapy began long before I entered the profession. As a teenager, I experienced mental health challenges that were more significant than I fully understood at the time. While I knew I was struggling, I did not yet have the insight, support, or language to make sense of what I was going through. Years later, as an adult, I had the privilege of attending therapy and experiencing its benefits firsthand. That experience supported my personal growth and deepened my appreciation for the value of compassionate, skilled support during life's most difficult seasons.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I spent six years teaching Music, Math, and English with the Toronto District School Board, working with students ranging from Junior Kindergarten through OAC. My years in education taught me the importance of meeting people where they are, recognizing the uniqueness of every individual, and cultivating environments where learning and growth can flourish. These experiences continue to shape my work as a therapist. Whether in a classroom or a counselling office, I have always believed that people thrive when they feel safe, valued, understood, and supported.

My Style and Areas of Support
I enjoy helping people reconnect with their sense of identity. Difficult experiences such as loss, trauma, conflict, life transitions, anxiety, depression, or prolonged stress can leave us feeling disconnected from who we are. Through greater self-compassion and acceptance of ourselves and others, new possibilities often emerge.

One of the themes that frequently arises in therapy is the way we speak to ourselves. Many of us are far more critical of ourselves than we would ever be toward someone we love or care about. Harsh self-judgment can become so familiar that we hardly notice its impact. It is a genuine joy to help clients develop a kinder and more compassionate inner dialogue, recognize strengths they may have overlooked, and acknowledge the resilience that has carried them through difficult times. Whether someone is facing anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, trauma, life transitions, grief, self-esteem challenges, neurodivergence, or questions of identity and purpose, I strive to offer a therapeutic environment characterized by acceptance, grace, curiosity, and hope.

I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches and tailor therapy to each person's unique needs and goals. I believe effective therapy is not about applying a single model to every situation, but about working collaboratively to find the approaches that best support each person's unique needs, goals, and circumstances.

Outside the Therapy Room
Outside of my professional life, I am grateful to be married for more than twenty-five years to my dear wife and to be a father to our now-adult son. Family is an important part of my life, and I enjoy spending time with those closest to me.

When I'm not working, you can often find me reading or journaling, growing deliciously sweet tomatoes, spicy jalapeños, and fragrant herbs on our balcony, playing the violin, cooking and baking, or taking walks with our family dog. You will not find me dunking myself in ice-cold baths, but I admire those who can!

My family and our time together help me stay grounded, creative, and connected to the things that matter most.
