“He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3 (NIV)

A Story That Grounds Us

In Mark 5, a woman who had suffered for twelve years reached out in quiet desperation, believing that even touching the edge of Jesus’ robe would be enough. And it was. Her healing wasn’t just physical—it was emotional, spiritual, and social. Jesus called her “daughter,” restoring not only her body, but her identity and dignity.

That moment reminds us: faith isn’t passive. It moves. It reaches. God transforms us through it.

What We Believe This Means for Us in Therapy

Many clients feel daunted to walk into the therapy room, feeling burdened with pain that seems too heavy to hold and with stories they imagine are too overwhelming to put into words. But no client ever walks in alone. There is beauty in the act of a therapist walking into a waiting room, calling a client, and walking WITH them into a room that can be a safe and healing space. But the room that the therapist and client walk into isn’t an empty space.

Jesus is Already in the Room

He’s there, not as an abstract idea, but as a present, calm, compassionate Saviour. He sees what you haven’t yet found words to express. He understands what feels difficult to speak out loud. His presence allows both your therapist and you to slow down and enter into the sacred space of shining light on what was kept in the dark, in order to bring hope and comfort to those tender parts of your heart.

Faith shifts everything. It brings God’s presence into the process. It creates space for hope when things look hopeless. And it can embolden us to share – knowing that our Loving Saviour is the source of healing.

Thoughts to Ponder

If you are feeling daunted to walk into your next therapy session, if you are feeling the pressure to have your pain gone and resolved quickly, remember:

  • There is no right or wrong way to be in therapy. Nor is there a speed that is too slow. God can be trusted with the process.
  • You are not alone in the journey.
  • Remember, Jesus is in the room even before you see your therapist open the waiting room door.
  • Healing is already underway.
